María Vez

JO-HS Residency May 2023

María Vez attended Art School at Universidad de las Américas Puebla (2015-2020). She currently lives in Cholula, Puebla, and works between there, CDMX and Culiacán. In 2018 she co-founded and curated along with her long time art partner Frida Cano Romo, Sabrosas Asociadas, an independent Artist-in-Residence program in San Andrés, Cholula.

She’s the self-published author of three poetry booklets and a short story compilation which she activates through public readings at exhibition sites. Most of her work is site-specific.

A feminist artist by chance, she has two main work lines worlds apart that converge on the idea of body image, gender roles, fantasy, and sexuality which she expresses through charcoal on canvas drawings, paintings, short stories or digital collages. Since 2017 she’s participated in a number of exhibitions both collective and individual between Puebla and Mexico City and has closely collaborated with independent projects such as Punto Seis, Reforma917, La Nana, Más Allá, Impronta Lab and Termostato.
