Founded by Elisabeth Johs in 2021, JOHS is a contemporary art gallery based in New York, with a nomadic program in Mexico City. Dedicated to supporting emerging and mid-career artists, the gallery presents a multidisciplinary program spanning painting, sculpture, and new media, with an emphasis on curatorial experimentation, international dialogue, and socially engaged practices. JOHS works with artists whose practices expand the possibilities of form and concept while engaging with questions of identity, memory, place, and cultural hybridity.
The gallery’s program brings together artists including Rodrigo Echeverría, Floria González, Hwi Hahm, Jack Mernin, Polina Osipova, Melissa Ríos, Morten Slettemeås, Jo Dennis, Demit Omphroy, Emil Sands, Andrea Villalón, Cassandra Mayela, and Rose Electra Harris, among others.
After opening its first permanent space in a reimagined modernist building in Mexico City, JOHS expanded to New York, where it now operates a permanent gallery in SoHo. Since 2026, its Mexico City program has evolved into a nomadic model, presenting exhibitions and collaborative projects across different spaces throughout the city while maintaining an active international presence through exhibitions, art fairs, and partnerships.

JOHS Founder and Director
Elisabeth Johs is a curator and art advisor originally from Denmark. Elisabeth has lived in London and New York and currently resides in Mexico City. In 2021 she founded JOHS, an art residency and project space in Mexico City focusing on exhibiting emerging artists. In 2023 Elisabeth established a new location for JOHS in New York City.
Since 2018 Elisabeth has been curating independently. Her curatorial practice actively pursues responses to modern-day challenges such as social, human and material, combining creativity, communication, research and innovation conveyed in visual narrative.
